World's largest municipal park 16,500 acres featuring city views, petroglyphs, 300 specimens of plant life, rabbits, foxes, coyotes, snakes, lizards and birds.
Also, activity complex, Hiking, Riding Trails, Interpretive Center, Lookouts, Museum, Natural Features, Ramada and Picnic Area, Ranger Station, Restrooms 
South Mountain became a City of Phoenix park in 1924. Many citizens including Carl Hayden bought
13,000 acres from the Federal Government for $17,000. In 1935 the National Park Service developed a master plan for the park
that included riding and hiking trails, picnic areas and overlooks. 
The highest point on South Mountain is Mount Suppoa which reaches 2,690 feet.  It is not accessible to the public.  Dobbin Lookout which is
2,330 feet high is the highest point accessible by trail.
